Nino Rota was an Italian composer born in in Milan into a family of musicians.

As a child, he moved to Rome and enrolled in the conservatory, where he completed his studies in Even during his time at the conservatory, Rota gained recognition as a prodigy composer and orchestra conductor.

He also composed ballets such as "La rappresentazione di Adamo ed Eva" (), "La Strada" (), "Aci e Galatea" (), "Le Molière imaginaire" (), and "Amor di poeta" (, written specifically for Maurice Béjart).

One of Rota's compositional habits, however, came up for disapproving remarks: his penchant for pastiche of various past styles, which quite often turned into outright quotation of his own earlier music or even others' music.

Film and Theater

Starting in the s, Rota began composing music for films, collaborating with directors such as Renato Castellani, Luchino Visconti, Franco Zeffirelli, Mario Monicelli, and Francis Ford Coppola. In , Rota won an Oscar for Best Original Score for Coppola's film "The Godfather: Part II." His most fruitful partnership was with Federico Fellini, for whom Rota composed the music for all of his films, starting with "The White Sheik" () and ending with "Orchestra Rehearsal" ().
