These movements not only mobilized the Indian people against British rule but also demonstrated the strength and resilience of non-violent resistance. We are telling stories and we are making a community. By elevating the issue of untouchability, Gandhi sought to unify the Indian people under the banner of social justice, making the independence movement a struggle for both political freedom and social equality.

With her new line Nika, that isn't so much a deviation from her easy ethos, but more a conscious focus on creating and nurturing an ecosystem. Vogue chats with the designer on the new beginning.

How has the last year been for you?

was the year of Kali for me; both personally and professionally.

A big jolt to our limited ecosystem of work, life and a giant leap into the unknown because all that had made us comfortably numb was destroyed profoundly.

It highlighted the deep religious and cultural divisions within India that Gandhi had spent his life trying to heal. Gandhi was instrumental in the discussions that led to Indian independence in , although he was deeply pained by the partition that followed. Gandhi was born on October 2, , in Porbandar, a coastal town in western India. His pivotal moment occurred during a train journey when he was forcibly removed from a first-class compartment simply for being Indian, despite holding a valid ticket.

Hence was an oxymoron, while it mercilessly tore down our fundamentals, it also gave us the most precious and rare gift—time! It was time for reset and to travel light into the future, as my friend Anne Valerie says.

What made you launch Nika at this time?

I was at a place in my life where a fundamental question was asked of me: Where do you see yourself at the end of your life—what are you doing about it now?

This led to the many other quests like: was I led by passion? Could I marry passion and purpose? What’s my deepest need? I understood that my most important need was to feel empowered.

  • And my passion is making beautiful clothes. The relevance of these two wasn’t enough so I dug a little deeper and figured that the only way I can empower myself is when I empower others. And more than anything else, I believe that women have to support each other. I actively started looking for women oriented clusters, weavers and social enterprises, communities that believed in hard work and integrity.

What is the hallmark of Nika?

We are telling stories and we are making a community.

    There’s no proprietary values.

Nikasha tawadey biography of mahatma Gandhi was deeply involved in these discussions, advocating for a united India while striving to alleviate communal tensions. Over the course of the day march, thousands of Indians joined him, drawing international attention to the Indian independence movement and the injustices of British rule. The Salt March marked a significant escalation in the struggle for Indian independence, showcasing the power of peaceful protest and civil disobedience. Nationalist Passions.

For example, we are working with the blind women’s association where we train them and give them unused fabric to make accessories, once they master that skill, we enable the client to buy directly from them. We will enable them to the best of their abilities and In return they will do the same. This is a small step towards a circular economy and co-marketing.

    What can we expect?

    Evolved essentials—dresses, tops, easy separates.

Everyday wear with a whimsical touch! I like to think of it as handwoven stories with a little flight of fancy.

What are you most proud of with this line?

The mantra that giving and receiving are both sides of the coin. We are often made to believe that we are giving but in fact the opposite is true.

    Where will it retail?

We are at Design Orchard in Singapore and we will be online by March.
